Cuenca Ecuador - A World Heritage Site

Latin America

Cuenca,
Ecuador

Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca, or Cuenca as it is commonly known in its short form, was founded in April 1557 by the Inca town of Tomebamba.

The streets of Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca feature cobblestones, pretty gardens and Colonial buildings which give Ecuador's third largest city a feeling of being townlike.

Cuenca is also home to four universities and the historic centre is fashioned on a grid building system.

Cuenca (Ecuador) features in UNESCO's world heritage site list.
