The caves of the Sierra de San Francisco in Baja California contain rock art dating back to between 1100BC and 1300AD.
The Sierra de San Francisco caves depict Pictographs (painted) and petroglyphs (carved) with the predominant colours being red, yellow, black and white. The images are of humans, animals and weaponry.
The Mexican Government only allows visits with a registered guide, to prevent vandalism and damage to the Sierra de San Francisco caves site.
The Sierra de San Francisco is incorporated within UNESCO's world heritage site list.
