Business in Latin America

Latin America business practice has been very influenced by Spain.

Very often you will find that people work to Spanish hours, working from about 9am until 2pm then a long lunch break to continue working from 5 until 8pm.

Other Latin American businesses have a more standard 9 until 5 or 6 approach.

Generally banks and similar businesses in Latin America are only open in the morning. Hours depend on the business type and if it is located in an urban or rural area.

If in any doubt, aim to do important things or make important calls in the morning.

Be aware that some Latin Americans suffer from ‘mañana syndrome’ and as such are not always the promptest in returning calls or emails.
